We will discuss how the story has been converted into some of the most iconic artworks from early Christian art, to Medieval and Gothic art, to the Renaissance, and then to contemporary art. Iconic masterpieces like la Pietá by Michelangelo, and several paintings and frescoes by the great masters, including one panel in the Sistine Chapel, have told some aspects of this powerful story. We will also discuss how it has been adapted and translated into plays and movies with some surprises and unexpected details!
