Itinerary Overview

9 AM The tour begins with a visit to Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the oldest churches in Rome. It is renowned for its beautiful mosaics, dating back to the 12th century. The church's serene and mystical atmosphere and rich history make it a true gem in the heart of Trastevere.

10 AM Then we’ll visit the Basilica of San Crisogono, an impressive baroque church with deep roots in the late Middle Ages. Beneath its surface, we’ll descend 20 feet below street level to explore the remains of the original 5th-century basilica, with its ancient frescoes, sarcophagi, and inscriptions. The underground reveals traces of the past, offering a unique window into the evolution of this sacred space from the 5th to the 12th century.

From there, we’ll meander through the hidden alleyways of Trastevere, a neighbourhood brimming with authentic Roman charm. As we stroll through its narrow streets, you'll pass by traditional bakeries, artisan shops, and picturesque lanes that offer a relaxed and authentic experience of local life.

10.30 AM There will be a short break for a coffee and a snack at a typical cafΓ© and bakery

11 AM Our next stop is the Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, a stunning baroque church built over the ancient Roman house of Saint Cecilia’s family. Inside, we’ll explore the Roman houses and underground crypts, beautifully preserved and offering a rare glimpse into the lives of early Christian martyrs. Don’t miss the exquisite frescoes by Pietro Cavallini, a hidden artistic treasure that brings to life the spiritual heritage of the site.

12 PM End of the visit at Isola Tiberina (10 minutes from Viale Trastevere)
