Mantova the Gem of Lombardy - Virtual Experience
Also known as the "Rome of the North" Mantua, Mantova in Italian, became one of the main centers of the High Renaissance in the XVI century, partially thanks to the Sack of Rome of 1527 which saw a large number of artists and intellectuals leave the city wrecked by the Lanzi, the Germanic Imperial Troops. Under the rule of the Gonzaga Family Mantova flourished: its Ducal Palace is a complex and large architectural wonder filled with masterpieces that once hosted the largest art collection in Europe, before the Family, during the XVII century when their fortunes started to change, started to sell to other collectors in England, France, and Germany mainly.
We will virtually explore the Palazzo Ducale and the Castello San Giorgio, with the incredible "Camera degli Sposi" painted by Andrea Mantegna, which features the family portraits, and the Palazzo Té a leisure villa built for the Duke's mistress by the Artist Giulio Romano, one of the most talented pupils of Raphael!
